Objective
The initial outcome for this project was to produce an exploded view of an Artist's hidden experience, their struggle to maintain a healthy work-life balance and the withering away of themselves within their artwork. However, as the work has continued to grow, I now find that the initial message has changed to be more broad and encompass more than just artists. This work shows the determinants of hyperfixation; how the goal/thing people seek can be alluring and beautiful— “hanging in a golden frame”, but solely focusing on that one outcome can cause issues and problems outside of it— surrounded by piles of garbage, that can be hard to see from one's own tunnel perspective.
Inspiration
Dirty White Trash (With Gulls), 1998
Composed from 6 months of artist's trash, 2 taxidermy seagulls, and a light projector.
Within Lights, Shadow,(Re)Action: Tim Noble and Sue Webster Trash Art Exhibition
The fact that the artist used their trash to create art
Want to have the same impact in my own artwork by having the trash be at the center front of the artwork
Also like how this work is presented in a gallery space and having that jarring juxtaposition of the trash pile being held within a stereotypical ‘esteemed’ building
The symbolism that is discussed through her installations
The scale present within her works
I love how the whole space is used for the work, how people have to walk through it but don’t get lost within the work but has a central focal point
Their exploration of different materials within their works that ties in with the themes they are exploring
Artworks/Installations:
A Room of Memory (2009)
Dialogue with Absence (2009)
The mix media
I love the movement present in these sculptures it feels like they could start moving at any second
Which also adds a horror element
This element also present in how Jones has put together the artworks
Possibly want to include a touch of the unnerving to the final AR piece to make the viewer uncomfortable and come to the realisation of how this outlook on life is detrimental by making that uncomfortable/unnerving feeling
This one to me feels as though it is being succumbed to their inner thoughts, possibly battling some mental health
Which is something I want to include in my artworks
